I    Upgradation of Roads

Some of the State Highways and District Roads were taken up for upgradation under this project.

TNRSP 01

The corridor from Arcot to Thiruvarur, via Arni, Thiruvannamalai, Vridhachalam, Jayamkonadam and Kumbakonam for a length of 378 km has been taken up in a single package including a major bridge and 6 ROBs at a cost of Rs. 768.50 Crores. The road works are expected to be completed before May, 2010 except six railway overbridges which are expected to be completed before December, 2010. Moreover Chidambaram bypass of 17 km at an estimate of Rs. 37 crores, Sirkazhi bypass of 9 km at an estimate of Rs. 23 crores were also taken up

TNRSP 02

Further Nagapattinam to Kattumavadi (119.00 km)  via Thiruthuraipoondi and Muthupettai has been taken up for upgradation. In the Nagapattinam to Kattumavadi stretch 3 ROBs and 2 major river bridges (Vettar) will be completed in the current year.

TNRSP 03

  Kattumavadi to Ramanathapuram (100.00 km) via Mimisal and Ramanathapuram to Tuticorin (115.00 km) via Keezhakarai and Sayalkudi has also been taken up for upgradation. The road stretch Kattumavadi to Ramanathapuram  (100 km) was made open to public by Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of India on 28.02.2009.

TNRSP 04 The Stretch from Ramanathapuram to Tuticorin (115 km) was opened to public by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu in two phases on 19.01.2009 and 27.02.2010.
           

TNRSP 05

Ramanathapuram bypass of 10 km at an estimate of Rs. 32 crores were also taken up. The work has been awarded on 23.06.2008 and the construction work is under progress and will be completed before December 2010.  The bids for the construction of Kumbakonam byepass with an estimated cost of Rs. 23.17 crores has been received and bid evaluation process is in progress.
           
TNRSP 06

For the reconstruction of Tsunami affected bridge between Keezhamanakudi and Melamanakudi village at a contract price of Rs.21.29 crores, Agreement has been signed on 03.03.2010 and this work will be completed by April, 2010.

 

II    Road maintenance works

            Under First Year Enhanced Periodical Maintenance works (2004-05) 597 km Roads are completed at a cost of Rs. 167.24 crores. Under Second Year Enhanced Periodical Maintenance, 252 km road works at a cost of Rs. 135.01 crores have been completed.  Under Third and Fourth Year Maintenance, 183.89 km of roads at a cost of Rs. 124.31 crores have been taken up, out of which 104 km have been completed and balance works are in progress.
