PHASE I & IA: |
Phase 1
of the project envisages widening and strengthening the
exisiting road from Nagapattinam to Ramanathapuram
for 334 kms. The road runs through Chidambaram,
Nagappattinam, Kattumavadi and Ramanathapuram. |

| Phase 1A consists of stretches of
road for 398 kms in |
|
| Arcot-Tiruvannamalai-Tirukoilur-Ilavanasur; |
|
| Polur-Chengam; |
|
| Virudachalam-Jayamkondam-Kumbakonam-Tiruvarur; |
|
| Ariyalur-Sendurai-Jayamkondam and
kumbakonam bypass. |
|
The project length for phase I and IA put
together is 732 Km for which project preparation has been
completed. |

|
PHASE IB: |
|
This comprises Detailed Engineering for 12 bypasses to a length of 87 Km and implementation services for roads in Phase I, IA & IB. M/s Brown & Root Services Asia Pacific Pty Ltd has completed the services on 31.3.2001. The duration of engineering phase is 7 months. The implementation services of the Project Co-ordinating Consultant will commence when the contractor is in position to take up Construction activities. |
