PROJECT DESCRIPTION

INTRODUCTION

            Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project with the assistance of World Bank Loan and the fund of Government of Tamil Nadu is undertaking the following works.

  1. Constructing roads conforming to international standards.
  2. Carrying out Enhanced Periodical Maintenance of roads.
  3. Executing Institutional Strengthening. and policy development works.

The project commenced with World Bank assistance at the estimated as Rs. 2160 crores. The current revised estimate of the project is Rs. 2442 crores, of which the World Bank loan component is Rs. 1903 crores and the remaining Rs. 539 crores is funded by Government of Tamil Nadu.

EOT & Additional Financing

            The original closing date of Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project is 31.03.2009. Considering various delays in implementation of the Project the World Bank has extended the Project closing date upto 31.03.2010. Necessary proposal for the extension of the Project loan period upto 31.03.2012 has been recommended by the Government of India to the World Bank and the same has been approved by World Bank.
Due to variations in upgradation works and foreign currency fluctuation, the anticipated final project cost is Rs. 2442 crores. Additional financing to the extent of Rs. 232.67 crores (US$ 50.70 Million) from World Bank have been submitted to GoI. The proposal for additional financing is now under process in World Bank.
